The Himachal Pradesh Home Guards, Civil Defence, Fire and SDRF Department has officially announced a major recruitment drive for 700 Home Guard Volunteers for the year 2026. Post-wise Vacancy 

The 700 positions are categorized into different roles to ensure technical and operational efficiency:

  • General Duty (GD) Men: 358 Posts
  • General Duty (GD) Women: 167 Posts
  • Bandmen: 74 Posts
  • Drivers: 76 Posts
  • Technical Tradesmen: 25 Posts (Includes Electricians, Plumbers, and Pharmacists)


Educational Qualification

  • General Duty & Bandmen: Must have completed 10+2 (Intermediate) from a recognized board.
  • Drivers: 10th or 12th pass with a valid Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) license.
  • Technical Trades: 10th pass plus an ITI Certificate in the relevant trade.


Age Limit (As of January 1, 2026)

  • Minimum: 18 Years
  • Maximum: 50 Years


Physical Standards (PST)

Candidates must meet the following minimum physical requirements:

  • Height (Male): 5' 6" (General), 5' 4" (SC/ST)
  • Height (Female): 5' 2" (General), 5' 0" (SC/ST)
  • Chest (Male Only): 31" unexpanded to 32" expanded.


Salary and Benefits

While the role is technically voluntary, volunteers receive a daily duty allowance. Currently, the rate is approximately ₹977 per day for every day they are called for duty, providing a stable source of income for those in service.


Selection Process

The selection is merit-based and involves several rigorous stages:

  • Physical Standard Test (PST): Initial screening of height and chest measurements.
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Includes a 1500m run (men) or 800m run (women), high jump, and long jump.
  • Written Exam (50 Marks): Testing General Knowledge, Mathematics, Hindi, and English.
  • Special Marks: Additional points are awarded for NCC certificates, Sports achievements, or previous experience in relevant fields.
  • Training: Finalists must complete a 45-day basic training course.
